Product Overview

Goex FFg (or 2Fg) is suited for Muskets, Shotgun, Rifles (50-caliber and larger), Black Powder Cartridges, and large-bore Pistols. While Goex has improved manufacturing processes and material quality, they have manufactured black powder using traditional materials to provide the same great ignition characteristics and uniform speed that master shooters and hunters have relied on for over 200 years. Goex Black Powder is available in different granular sizes to tailor a performance to a specific firearm. From FFFFg (smallest) to Cannon (largest), Goex has a granulation size for your firearm.

Technically it will but you would likely be one of a handful of people that would use it. This is black power and a case full would be safe in a 460 magnum gun but FFFg would be more suitable. Now I would not want to deal with cleaning a S&W revolver after firing this stuff but I would not hesitate to use BP in a BFR or a single shot rifle or the like if it was something that you want to try. Just make sure that you use bullets with blackpowder compatible lube and follow all published guidelines for loading BP cartridges such as leaving no air in the case etc.

You simply cannot go wrong with Goex. It’s by far the gold standard for black powder firearms. I use this FF powder to reload my 45-70 Springfield Trapdoor rounds and it’s an easy cleanup with a wash of water, then a COMPLETE drying, then a nice coating of oil. For the price, you simply cannot beat it! Get

Product works as expected but midway takes almost a whole business week to even get the product in the mail and shipped

The Fg, FFg, FFFg and FFFFg are referring to the grain size of the powder. 1F is cannon powder, 2F is rifles and shotguns, 3F is for pistols and 4F is for flintlock priming pans

I really like this powder! GOEX BLACK POWDER has always been my go to powder for my 30/06. But, I couldn’t get any due to the recent supply shortage. But, I was able to get some Norma 204. In the mean time, I was able to get some more, so I didn’t have to try the Norma powder at all. I’m glad I did, it really shrank my groups. I can’t explain it, it’s obviously a slower burning powder than 4895. Possibly, it just meters more accurately through my RCBS uniflow. But, I’ve been shooting .35 moa, and this is from a rifle that I’ve never got better than 1 moa with the 4895.
I still have a long way to go tweaking my load, with seating depth etc. But, I think I’m on the right track. If this continues this will be my go to powder. So, please get some more Norma 204 in stock.

I shoot this in my Hawken .50 and it’s great. there is nothing like the smell of real blackpowder. it seems to burn uniformly as accuracy stays pretty uniform

  8. Ernest Tim

I use this 2f powder in my revolver, and it works great! I know 3f is recommended, but it has been hard to find, so don’t hesitate to use 2f

Works great in my 50 cal traditional muzzleloaders – lower ignition point than pyrodex. Awesome that visionammo now carries Goex powder and that there isn’t a minimum order size of a case (25 cans) like some other online dealers. Real blackpowder can be hard to find locally due to the fire codes and hazardous materials laws.
